It has become popular for travel agents to offer “all inclusive vacations”. The problem is that there are some very different definitions as to what is included in “all inclusive”.

Here are some of the things that I would expect to be included in my vacation:

• The airfare. I want to pay for everything at once. This includes getting to my destination.
• The hotel or resort. For example, if I booked a Fiji inclusive vacation then I’d expect it to include a stay at a nice Fiji resort.
• My meals. You have to eat during any trip. Therefore, I think that food should be included.
• My beverages. I don’t drink alcohol daily but it’s something I enjoy on vacation. I think at least a limited amount should be included in my all inclusive vacation.
• Activities. I don’t plan on sitting around during my vacation. I expect to be able to do some active things such as snorkeling. That should be included.

I don’t actually think that I’m asking for a lot. I think that the all inclusive vacation should include all of the basics that you’d want on a trip. The rest can then be considered extra. That seems fair, doesn’t it?
