My trainer came out to my barn today for the first time in months, to give me a lesson on my horse.  The last time I saw her she was six or seven months pregnant; this time she came toting a fat and healthy baby boy.

I wonder if I ought to get her a baby present.  She has been wonderful to me and my horse — she helped me with starting him under saddle, and taught me a lot about owning and caring for horses (as I was pretty much a novice horse owner at the time).  It seems like buying a baby present would be a really good way to show my appreciation for everything she has done for us.

Of course, I don’t have a lot of money to spare (since I spend most of what I’ve got on my horse), so it’ll have to be something affordable.  i was thinking about maybe giving her some baby toys — something thoughtful but still within my price range.  I’m a big fan of open-ended toys — toys that make kids think and learn and use their imaginations — so I’ll probably opt for something like HABA toys, which are wooden baby and kid toys such as blocks, dolls, etc.

I’m a big fan of showing appreciation to service people.  As big a part of my life (and my horse’s!) as she’s been, my trainer is at the top of the list!
