My best friend and my sister are both cat people. I’m a dog person. This difference means that we often end up involved in intense discussions about the differences between cats and dogs. I often end up learning a lot from these talks even though I don’t like to admit it.

As a result of one of the most recent discussions I learned a lot about the benefits of cat furniture. I was always of the opinion that cat furniture was a silly expense. After saying that to these two great women in my life and getting an earful back about it, I learned that cat furniture actually offers a lot of enrichment and health benefits for cats.

For example, a cat tree is a great piece of furniture for cats to climb. Cats who live indoors need to be active and having a piece of furniture to climb can really benefit them in that. Another example is the cat scratching post which helps to keep the claws and paws of the cat healthy. And here I was thinking that it only served the purpose of making sure the cat didn’t tear up the furniture! Turns out I can learn a lot about cats even though I own dogs.
