Great Soul Food in Augusta

Augusta, Georgia stands out for many reasons and one of the most prominent ones is the fact that it is the location of one of the nation’s most prestigious golf tournaments, the Masters. And while this definitely draws a large percentage of the city’s tourists every year, one of the things that keeps them most satisfied and coming back for more is the great soul food restaurants that can be found there. IN addition to online resources some of the hotels Augusta are excellent places to begin your search for the best soul food. And the good news is that you are sure to find it while you are in town.

The Whistle Stop Cafe is a favorite among locals and a new love for tourists. The portions are known for being very large so bring an appetite. It is usually pretty busy too so keep that in mind when you make your plans. The plates are inexpensive and it is a quick service oriented establishment. Willie’s Soul Food is another great option and is a favorite in the southern region of the city. One of the great things about soul food restaurants is that many of the owners have their distinct recipes and there is always a sense of authenticity in flavor and style

And while the recipes and specific dishes can vary with restaurant and venue, there are some standard food that are typically present in the menu. Collard greens and sweet potatoes are staple ingredients, and interestingly extremely good for you. One of the things soul food is known for being is full of flavor but lacking in nutritional value, so meals that can include the bright green vegetable and sweet potatoes and other vegetables are particularly recommended. Augusta has great southern food options as well as cuisine from around the world. One thing is certain, you may be in town for the golf but you will not go hungry while you are there.

Reverse SMS Billing Has Its Place

If you have ever received a text message that you have had to pay for then you have been involved in a process called reverse SMS billing. In standard SMS billing, the company sending the message is the one that has to pay for the transaction. In reverse SMS billing, the mobile customer pays for the transaction.

Why would a mobile phone user want to pay for SMS billing? There are actually quite a few times when SMS billing has its place in the lives of mobile consumers. Some basic examples include:

  • Customers want to receive specific mobile content and are willing to pay for it. For example, a customer may want to receive text messages alerting them about the day’s weather, the changes in the stock market or the latest horoscope.
  • Customers want to make a one-time or ongoing donation to a cause that they support. They are willing to pay a small SMS billing fee in order to be able to easily make their donation with their mobile phone instead of through some other charitable method.
  • Customers want to cast a vote for something. In the world of American Idol, many text messages customers are interested in voting by cell phone. In some cases, SMS billing may be appropriate for this.
  • Customers may be texting to enter a competition. Some customers are willing to pay a small fee to enter various competitions via SMS. The convenience of being able to enter the competition from anywhere as long as they have their phones with them is worth the cost.

Both traditional SMS billing and reverse SMS billing definitely have their place in the mobile world that we operate in today.

Installing Your Laminate Floor

Here are a few tips when installling your laminate floor:

  1. Before you install your laminate floor, remove your previous flooring, and assure subfloor is level. You can do this with a laser level.
  2. When working with a concrete subfloor, it’s important to protect from moisture using a moisture barrier. Make sure it overlaps and is held together uings duct tape. You may need to install an underpad.
  3. Product and expand and contract. Let the floor acclimate for 72 hours before insallation. Inspect boards for defects. It’s a good idea to have an additional 10% product to account for loss of product due to defects.
  4. Stagger the boards and maintain minimal length for end boards.

Last Day of the Trade Show

exhibition It may seem weird to have a trade show so close to Christmas, but it is a common sight here around the holidays.  Retailers from all over our state come to the arena here in this small town to set up trade show displays and sell their wares to the town residents.

It is a huge hit, and since it is a farming community, we get people from miles away who drive in to do their Christmas shopping.  At the sale you will find everything from children’s toys, to farm equipment, and even during the last few years people have sold livestock here.

It is one of the highlights of the year for the town, and yet it is one of the most tiring times of the year for me.  This is our fifth year having a trade show exhibit here, and though profitable, it is getting harder to run as I get older.

We sell a lot of metal puzzles that we have created at our shop in the big city, and it just amazes me how many we sell each year.  In fact, the sales that we make at this event are almost similar to the sales we make during the entire year back at our shop (which has low foot traffic since it is in an industrial area).

Needless to say, I will be happy in eight hours once the tradeshow is done for the year.  It will be nice to sit down during the Christmas break – these old feet are tired.
