Searching for Grandpa’s hearing aid
By bookish in Health | 0 comments
Some of my earliest memories was going to visit my grandparents. Inevitably one of the other of them would misplace their hearing aid and we would spend half of our time there on our hands and knees looking for it. As I look back on it now, that visualization is actually quite humorous, but at the time it was nothing less than boring and frustrating.
The advance of technology did little to help this situation either. As they manufactured smaller and smaller hearing devices, they got lost faster and faster. The thing that I was always thinking during these treasure hunts was why the heck was the hearing aid out of their ear to begin with?
That question never got answered. Probably to my better fortune. By the time I actually was older and more confident, we were not visiting them very often.
While I would probably trade both of my grandparents passing away now for spending some time on my hands and knees looking for their aids, I know that even given those calamities, the time we spent in their company was some of the best times my brother and sisters and I spent growing up.
Of course, if I ever need a hearing aid, it won’t come out of my ear!
