I am happy to say that my sister-in-law finally got a job.  I say finally because she has been unemployed since she moved to the Denver area a year ago with my husband’s brother and their kids.

She’s been dead weight, stalling on getting a job until she was too pregnant to be hired anywhere.  Now, four months after the baby was born, she has finally shown some motivation and found some part-time work for the weekends working for a home care facility.

She is actually making some good money at her new job.  She works two 12-hour shifts every weekend, making about $16 per hour.  She’s able to get a job like that because she has had direct care worker training and almost a decade of work experience in the industry.  I believe the whole of her experience is taking care of elderly folks who cannot care for themselves any longer, so that’s what she’s doing now too.

It may have taken her a year to start looking, but once she did she found a job pretty quickly.  I guess the industry is suffering a signifcant shortage of nurses and other workers, so anyone with healthcare training is highly sought-after.  Whatever the reason, I’m just glad she will be able to begin contributing to the household finances, because my brother-in-law is having a hard time supporting the whole family himself!
