Cloth Hippie

I live in Boulder, Colorado so that alone makes my family think I am a hippie.  I enjoy nature hikes, recycling, and yes, I even enjoy (and following appropriately with the cliché) granola.  I also enjoy brushing my hair, wearing fashionable clothing, and the use of soap when showering daily -therefore I cannot possibly be a hippie.

Boulder has many advantages.  One of the advantages is the community’s awareness of going green and the carbon footprint each of us are leaving on the environment.  The more I read about these issues and watch what is possible to adjust my behavior, the more I think I may use cloth baby diapers when I have children.  The fact that disposable baby diapers will be found in land dumps hundreds of years down the road is disturbing.  Furthermore, to care for the environment (and therefore my children and grandchildren’s earth) I will also seek out cradle bedding manufactured with organic material and at a “green” factory.  I am certain I can find baby bedding both comfortable and cute as an environmentally friendly alternative.

It seems that anyone having a child would be more loving to the Earth.  Before kids, I know, many people operate in a bubble of selfishness (not everyone, mind you, just many).  After having children, however, you would think there is a greater sense of awareness that takes over the mind.  Someone said the Earth is not ours; we are just borrowing it from our grandchildren.

    Sometimes it is a bit hard to choose from the different brands and styles of baby beddings out there on the market. I usually pick the one that fits my budget.’;
