An Instructor’s Life for Me

Just over a year ago, I hired a horse trainer to help train my horse and teach me to ride better.  I’ve gotten to know her pretty well, and I think she has a great career.  She works a flexible schedule, only part time during some parts of the year, and makes good money doing it.  What a perfect setup!

There are other jobs that have similar appeal.  Some golf jobs offer this kind of flexibility: For instance, you could offer golf instruction as a private instructor, or hire yourself out as a caddie for professional golfers.

You could also tutor children in their studies, or teach just about any kind of sport or extracurricular activity that kids enjoy.

Of course, all of these careers require some education and/or training in order for clients to take you seriously.  My trainer has a degree in equine studies, and a golf instructor or caddie would almost certainly need to have attended an academy of golf.  Many tutoring services require their tutors to have a teaching degree, and private sports instructors generally need to have extensive experience and/or training in the sport they wish to teach.

Of course, I don’t envy this life too much — after all, as a freelance writer I already have a pretty flexible career.  Still, the thought of working outside with horses all the time is pretty appealing!
