Customer Reward Programs for Small Businesses

Customer reward programs have been used by big businesses for quite a long time.  However, these programs can are generally underutilized by small businesses.  Many consumers are motivated by the goal of earning a high status or membership.  The promise of these rewards can go far in attracting and retaining customers.  This is true if your business has a hundred customers or a million.

Small business owners should strongly consider using rewards, perks, or memberships that your customers can earn through repeat business.  Some possible perks or rewards may be discounts on products after a specified number of products purchased, customer workshops, special offers, or member-only newsletters.  These programs are a great way to get customers to provide referrals, try new products, or commit to minimum yearly purchases.

If, as a small business owner, you decide to use a rewards program, be sure to treat all of your customers with respect.  Do not alienate new customers who have yet to qualify for the program.  Remember, these new customers have the potential to become repeat buyers.  As a matter of fact, a good rewards program will encourage new or potential customers to strive to earn these perks and memberships.  Above all, be absolutely certain that you deliver what you promise.  Offer useful, realistic rewards and always follow through.

Small business loyalty programs may seem like an impossibility, but with the ever-developing world of technology, it is possible for small business owners to have a program without breaking the bank.

Having a unique loyalty program will keep customers coming back to your small business. This can include birthday gifts, loyalty parties after hours, or advanced services at no charge.

Because many small businesses usually only have one location, it is possible to tailor that businesses’ loyalty program to the neighborhood or area. This can make a unique loyalty program that keeps customers coming back.

Be careful not to force programs onto customers. Having brochures on the counter or just a sign about the loyalty program may be all you need to get customers interested in the programs.

Following through is really important. It will increase the customer’s confidence in your small business and it’s services. Being a dependable business will also help fuel word of mouth advertising.
