Trucks and SUVs Declining in Popularity

Denver used to be the SUV capital, but lately, I’m just not seeing very many trucks or SUVs anymore.  With even the car manufacturers turning away from their one-time cash cow, sport utility vehicles, it seems like rising fuel prices are finally beginning to deter people from driving gas-guzzling trucks and SUVs.

I remember back in the late ’90s, when gas was under a dollar a gallon and trucks were still mega-popular.  A lot of my guy friends had trucks and SUVs, which they loved to buy accessories for.  Some of these accessories, such as bigger tires and ventshades, actually worsened gas mileage — but no one worried about that then.  Probably the only accessory any of the guys liked that improved gas mileage was tonneau covers, which cuts down on wind resistance in the bed of the truck.  Other popular accessories were things like light bars, push bar bumpers, and Hella lights.

Of course, trucks and SUVs will never be totally obsolete — at least not until we have a replacement for them.  There are too many things that actually require trucks, such as hauling things, pulling trailers, etc.  But certainly trucks and SUVs are becoming less popular as basic daily transportation!
